Mountain Movers take on massive projects such as preparing the Rescue Mission’s Christmas card for mailing. Last year, we mailed 143,000 Christmas Cards inviting our friends and neigbhors to help the Mission help homeless families! Mountain Movers are the “on-call” volunteers, the first ones contacted when help on a big project is needed.

Jubilee Acres Volunteers do outside cleaning and maintenance at the Mission’s retreat center as well as inside cleaning in the spring and fall, preparing the lodge and grounds for day camp and other events. This is a great intergenerational activity.

Table favors are a piece of candy (no gum please) attached to a small note with a scripture verse or encouraging word. We need 200 for lunch and 300 for supper. What a fun time to gather the kids, a Sunday School group or your senior group and have a Table Favor Party! Just drop off the completed table favors at the Mission’s front desk. Rescue Mission staff and volunteers take every opportunity to let guests know how much they are valued and loved and one way to do this is to provide a “table favor” at each place setting.

Thrift Store volunteers are men, women, and children. They may be asked to hang, tag or price clothing, assist in cleaning furniture or bric-a-brac or assemble furniture. Thrift Store hours are 9 am – 5.30 pm Monday – Saturday.

Voucher volunteers assist customers on Fridays from 4 – 5.30pm with their selections for clothing vouchers from the Rescue Mission Clothing Voucher Program.

  • Store beautification and set-up
  • Bric-a-Brac Dept – clean and sort
  • Book Dept – sort, price and stock
  • Appliance Dept – check and clean
  • Clothing Dept – sort, hang, tag and price
  • Electronics – test, clean and repair
  • Furniture Department – cleaning

Transporters devote a regular weekday morning or afternoon to drive the Mission transport van. The transport van takes Rescue Mission guests to appointments, picks up smaller donations from local businesses, and delivers courier items for all Mission departments. This is a wonderful couples volunteer opportunity!

Everybody wants to be a Storytime Volunteer. Bedtime stories are read to all the children living in the family shelter each weeknight. The storytellers provide cups of milk or juice and a cookie for each child.

We’re always open to other ideas, too! Contact Leslie Littlefield, Volunteer Coordinator, at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 540.777.7651.
