Last year 5,000 runners, walkers, strollers, volunteers and well-behaved dogs came on Thanksgiving morning to the StellarOne Drumstick Dash 5K Run & Family Walk. This event has quickly become Roanoke’s largest family reunion with families coming from all over the United States.

The 3rd Annual StellarOne Drumstick Dash starts at 9am near the intersection of Williamson Road and Franklin Road. Fast facts include:
- Families from 26 different states came together last year to make this the largest road race in the region and Roanoke’s biggest family reunion
- The route was held in beautiful (flat) downtown Roanoke ending at the historic Farmer’s Market – this is the one event and the one day that downtown streets can be closed for an event of this size
- 18 groups of musicians performed along the route for the enjoyment of the runners and walkers
- 63 corporate sponsors, churches and media partners provided financial support and in-kind donations to make the StellarOne Drumstick Dash possible
- $150,000 was raised from the Drumstick Dash
- Funds raised provide food and safe shelter for an average of 366 people each night at the Rescue Mission
Participants who register early save money on the registration costs, but participants can register as late as Thanksgiving Morning from 7 – 8am at the Rescue Mission. All proceeds from the StellarOne Drumstick Dash benefit The Rescue Mission. No Federal, State or City funds go to support The Rescue Mission.
